Thanksgiving
This year, it was warm enough for the kids to eat outside.
I am so grateful for that.
It would have been hard to fit 31 people in our house for the feast.
Beenaner
I don't know how this little body can hold such a giant spirit.
Anna is supposed to collect the eggs every morning. After two days of returning with an egg-less basket I started to doubt her thoroughness. Anna and I went back to the chicken coop and sure enough, there were no eggs to be found in the nesting boxes.
I began searching the run for eggs knowing that sometimes the chickens start laying in the cavities of the rocks. While searching, I rhetorically asked the chickens where they were laying their eggs. And then Anna said
"Oh Mom, I'll ask them. I speak chicken."
And she proceeded to make all sorts of clucking noises.
After a brief moment, she told me
"Mom, they said they were laying in the coop."
All be darned!

Aquarium
Everyone thought the squid dissection was DISGUSTING!
The 100 year old turtle was ok.
Touching the sting rays was pretty cool.
But the train ride down and back takes the cake!

Oh Happy Day
The other day it was 75 degrees!
75 in November!
Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!
So we did what any other sane person would do,
played hookie from school,
and went to the beach.
But the beach was empty...
...so maybe we are the only sane people.
Does everyone not remember winter is coming?!?!?!?
We found lots of treasures.
We hit low tide and found all sorts of snails, crabs, and sand dollars.
We even found some jellyfish.
Although we played hookie from the books,
we learned more than we would have
by just reading about the animals and tides.
Feeling the sunshine and squishing the sand with our toes was an added bonus!
An Apple A Day
Our friends had a BUMPER apple crop this year.
We were the lucky beneficiaries of the crop.
Our kitchen turned into an apple processing machine.
We now have canned
applesauce and pie filling.
We also have
dried apples and fruit leather,
GALORE!
Not to mention all the fresh crisp apples we ate.
But 9823897624387lbs of apples didn't prove to be enough.
So, we went apple picking again and
again and
again!
Did you know that planting a seed from a variety of apple does not guarantee your tree will grow that specific variety? Grafting is the only way to ensure your variety grows.
Did you know there are over 2000 varieties of apples?
My favorite...honeycrisp!

Family Photos 2015
This was a painless family photo year.
And this picture takes home the trophy!
The Katester loves that thumb!
How did I get so lucky?
I am in love with this family life!
